Help Promote Your Theatre Organ - Join LCTOS
The 2009-2010 membership drive netted only a dozen annual members. Once over 250 members strong, the Long Center Theatre Organ Society is at a crossroads. If you are not a member yet, please consider joining or making a donation by going to the
Membership Information link, filling out the form and mailing it with your donation. In the coming months, LCTOS needs to decide which direction we take as we face the problems of funding the organ repair and maintenance as well as funding our future activities in Lafayette and Tippecanoe County. As with most local organizations, corporate gifts have diminished or vanished completely, and we are now relying solely on individual's memberships and donations. If you are already a member, please consider writing a letter to the editor of any of the local newspapers supporting Theatre Organ and the music community in general. Our organization is not alone in this funding dilemma, and all of the arts organizations are facing the same challenges. Please help us continue our mission of keeping Theatre Organ in Lafayette and Tippecanoe County.
LCTOS Theater Organ Performances
The 2009-2010 concert season continues with two more performances. The first performance of the season was a spectacular event attended by 1600 at Purdue's Elliott Hall of Music where Clark Wilson accompanied the silent film Metropolis. LCTOS was a co-sponsor of the event which was a once-in-a-lifetime performance that everyone will be talking about for decades to come. The second performance will feature Ken Double at the Long Center on October 30th at 8 p.m. accompanying the silent film Phantom of the Opera.
Would you like to help at an upcoming concert? - Volunteers Needed!
Each LCTOS concert requires up to a couple dozen volunteers to make it happen. We need ushers, ticket takers, and people to help at the sales table as well as the refreshments table. Usually requiring only an extra hour of your time, you also get to enjoy the concert. Contact us at contact@lctos.org if you are interested in helping. With this year's low membership we are struggling to fill the many positions needed to make our events a success.
Central Indiana Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society
The Central Indiana Chapter of ATOS also provides opportunities for you to attend live Theatre Organ performances. Members-only performances are held quarterly, and public performances (listed below) are held regularly throughout the year. The Martin Ellis performance was an American Songbook and attend by several hundred at Manual High School (one of the few if not the only High School to have a Wurlitzer Theatre Organ). The next performance is Music and a Movie featuring Jim Riggs at the Manual High School Wurlitzer on November 8th at 2:30p.m.
